Differences Between Cement and Concrete

There are some misconceptions among so many that cement and concrete are same. There are some major differences between cement and concrete. The differences are shown by a cement vs concrete  table below. You can also know about the differences between concrete and mortar here.

  • Cement is made of limestone and clay.
  • Concrete is made of cement, rocks, sand and water.
  • Cement is a binding agent or glue.
  • Concrete is an actual construction material.
  • Cement can only be mixed in small batches.
  • Concrete can be mixed in large quantity.
  • Cement is not strong and cannot be used in sidewalks and for walls.
  • Concrete is strong and is excellent for walls, foundations and sidewalks.
  • Color and drying time can be altered by slightly altering the chemical compounds.
  • Color can only be changed by using a tint.
  • Cement is used in concrete and mortar.
  • Concrete is the final product.
  • Cement was created before concrete.
  • Concrete was developed after cement.
  • Thawing and freezing resistant portland cements help concrete to fight these factors under adverse climate.
  • Concrete is highly exposed to freezing and thawing under adverse climate if normal cement . If it is exposed, air entraining admixtures need to be added.
  • Cement contains 10% to 15% of the total concrete volume.
  • In the concrete mixture, aggregate contains about 60% to 75%, water 15% to 20% and the remaining is cement.
